The Marriage of Jonathan and Mary Buffum Wheeler
Jonathan Wheeler of Berlin, Massachusetts and Mary Buffum of Smithfield, Rhode Island were married in a Quaker ceremony at the Public Meeting House in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.
“And he said Jonathan Wheeler taking the said Mary Buffum by the Hand did Openly declare as followeth - Friends I desire you to be my witnesses that I take this my Friend Mary Buffum to be my Wife Promising by the Lords assistance to be Unto her a True & Loving Husband until it Shall pleas God by Death to separate Us. An then & there She the said Mary Buffum did in like manner declare as followeth - Friends I desire you to be my witnesses that I take this my Friend Jonathan Wheeler to be my Husband promising by the Lords assistance to be unto him a true and loving Wife until it shall Pleas God by Death to Separate Us.”
They settled in a home on Wheeler Hill, Highland Street in Berlin, Massachusetts. The house was destroyed in 1859, but it is believed to have been located somewhere between the Frederick Wheeler home and the former Amos C. Wheeler home.

Descendants of Jonathan and Mary Buffum Wheeler
Jonathan and Mary Buffum Wheeler were blessed with eleven children. Four died at an early age and two never married. Only two sons, Daniel and Jonathan, were left to perpetuate the name of Wheeler. The three girls, Elizabeth, Ruth, and Mary, married men who introduced the names of Babcock, Mowry, and Southwick to our family tree. It is the descendants of these five children of Jonathan and Mary who have annually gathered for a reunion since 1860.
